Aside from the completion of requirements and its associated fees, the coming of March also meant one thing - Graduation Pictorials! Since I wasn’t able to push through with my supposed to be Halloween 2013 costume, I decided to use the idea for my creative shot instead! It’s not the most original costume in the world, but I had so much fun making it! If you ask me now why I opted to go as a loofah, I don’t really have an answer. All I know is that I wanted my creative shot to be out of the box and something that would make a lasting impression. Mukhang achieve naman! Haha!

In case you wanted to make a loofah costume too, here’s a DIY tutorial for you! It looks intimidating, but it’s actually incredibly easy! Are you ready? :)

Materials you would be needing:

16 yards of Tulle (you could also use Nylon netting)

A tube top/dress that matches the color of your fabric

Garter/Elastic

String

Scissors

1. Prepare all your materials. The hardest thing to source, in my opinion, would be the tulle. I would have gotten it myself if I wasn’t too pre-occupied with school, so I had someone else get it for me from Divisoria. The elastic and string I got from my favorite seamstress. All in all I spent P1000.

2. In most cases, your fabric would have already been pre-folded. If not, fan fold it yourself, measuring out two yards per fold. Cut along the edges to separate the folds. Don’t worry if you get uneven edges. They don’t have to be perfect!

3. You’ll end up with eight pieces. Now it’s time for the tricky part! Take one piece, long side facing you, and fold it into thirds.

Right side towards the center.

Then the left.

4. Measure out a piece of string. Place it under your folded fabric, bunch it up towards the middle and secure it with the string. Do not cut the extra string. You will use this to attach the bundles to the elastic later. Do the same for the other seven pieces.

image

5. Get your garter/elastic and measure around your bust and waist. Add an extra inch or two so you’d have extra to tie the elastic together. You will end up with two elastic bands.

6. Get one bundle and attach it to the elastic using tight knots, tying four bundles on each elastic band, spacing them out at even intervals. Do the same for the other elastic band.

image

7. Now it’s time to fluff away! I found pulling the tulle outwards while grasping the edges will produce the fluffiest results. I had my siblings help me with this process too! Lastly, measure the string around your neck and attach it to one of the bunches (halter style) Wear the two bunches over a tube dress (or with a nuetral colored top and stockings if you’re not a hubadera like me haha) and you’re good to go!

Here are some of the photos after my shoot! The tulle will sag at some point, so be sure you’re ready to re-fluff! I’ll update this post once I get the final photos, but for the mean time, these would do!

P.S. If you’re interested in buying mine (I won’t have any use for it anymore anyway) feel free to send an e-mail to ajosecharlene@gmail.com. I’m selling it for the same price I got the materials (P1000)

That’s it pansit! What do you think? Let me know in the comments below!

Extra P.S. Tag me if ever you make this project also! I’d love to see yours! @ajosecharlene (Twitter and Instagram)
